Guidelines & Rules
Because we sincerely desire to put our best foot forward in serving you, our community, we have established the below information pertaining to engagement with Chasing Christ.
Doctrinal Guidelines
There are varying levels of doctrine. We like to apply a sort of spiritual triage when looking at these.
Primary doctrines are outlined specifically, and some examples are provided for the other categories here:

These doctrines are essential to the Christian faith and are non-negotiable to be considered Christian.

These doctrines are non-essential to what it is to be Christian, but they often are those that matter when it comes to fellowship in the local church (they are often considered denominational distinctives).
Baptism (Credo vs. Paedo),
Liturgy (Formal vs. Informal),
Sacraments (Transubstantiation, Consubstantiation, Symbolic),
Worship (Traditional vs. Non-Traditional),
Church Distinctives (e.g., male vs female pastorate, spiritual gifts, pastor led vs elder led vs congregation led),
Etcetera....
Tertiary Doctrines
These doctrines are non-essential to what it is to be Christian and often aren't a reason for breaking fellowship in the local church (they are issues that typically bear no practical implications to community).
Millennial Views (Pre-Mil, Post-Mil, A-Mil),
Rapture Views (Yes vs. No)
Our Community & You
In an effort to make informed decisions about your experience with us, the following information is provided in order to discuss pertinent details regarding our rules as a community. If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to this disclosure, please let us know.
═╣ RULE 1 ╠═
As a Christian, unity is the goal (1 Corinthians 1:10; 1 Peter 3:8). Do not create unnecessary division. Remember that Chasing Christ is a melting pot. Maintain unity in the essentials, liberty in the non-essentials, and charity in all things.
-
"If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all."
(Romans 12:18)
═╣ RULE 2 ╠═
Treat everyone with respect. Absolutely no harassment, witch hunting, sexism, racism, or hate speech will be tolerated.
-
"Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor."
Romans 12:10)
═╣ RULE 3 ╠═
Civil discussion is always welcome. Any dialogue that may happen related to biblical/theological differences of opinion should focus on the arguments/positions/points made, not the person making them (e.g., no ad hominem). Edify one another. If conflict arises, please contact a Moderator.
-
"But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels...."
(Titus 3:9)
═╣ RULE 4 ╠═
No spam or self-promotion (server invites, advertisements, personal works/books, external gatherings, etc) without permission from a staff member. This includes DMing fellow members.
-
"Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor."
(1 Corinthians 10:24)
═╣ RULE 5 ╠═
No age-restricted or obscene content. This includes text, images, or links featuring nudity, sex, hard violence, or other graphically disturbing content. No NSFW or use of slurs, regardless of context. Additionally, your personal profile may not contain any explicit or NSFW content.
-
"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths...."
(Ephesians 4:29a)
═╣ RULE 6 ╠═
Listen to the staff. Those in our authority structures (⛪・our-community) have the explicit responsibility of using their judgment in teaching and moderation, respective to their category of authority. Do not argue with them. In the case of major disagreement or rule issues, please contact a @Moderator. Please contact an @Administrator if there is a Staff issue. If you see something against the rules or something that makes you feel unsafe, let staff know. We want this server to be a welcoming space!
-
"Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account."
(Hebrews 13:17a-17b)
═╣ RULE 7 ╠═
Above all, follow Christ. Love Him. Obey Him. Do all this in thought, in word, and in deed.
-
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.... If you love me, you will keep my commandments."
(John 13:34; 14:15)
═╣ RULE 8 ╠═
Per Discord terms, you must be 13 or older to be in this server. Discord ToS: https://discord.com/new/terms.
═╣ RULE 9 ╠═
You may not use an alt/secondary account.
═╣ RULE 10 ╠═
Any violation or disregard for the information listed in this channel (⛪・our-community), under any heading, is subject to adverse disciplinary action - up to and including being a bannable offense.
Additionally, and more specifically, arguing against our policies, sharing misinformation, or attempting to convert individuals to your particular denomination or faith tradition, whether publicly on the server or through direct message (DM), may also result in removal from the community.
As outlined in this channel (⛪・our-community), while we are primarily a Protestant ministry organization, we welcome all those who profess faith in the risen Christ, our Lord and God.
═╣ RULE 11 ╠═
We base rule breaks on our own discernment and judgment. While we are open to discuss rule breaks and punishments, trying to justify poor behavior based on your judgment won't get you anywhere.
═╣ RULE 12 ╠═
If you seem like a troll, you will get banned. We have little tolerance for those who join to purposefully make users uncomfortable, cause division, and break rules.
